I believe that by harnessing our Shaolin spirit we are able to bring others to a healthier way of living. But to do so we must learn to educate, discipline, and enlighten ourselves everyday. By developing the skills and tools necessary, this goal is achievable.
Through Kung Fu training, we teach ourselves to be more patient and disciplined which is needed to be a leader. Leadership is about making the first move toward helping society as a whole become healthier and more positive. Training ourselves both physically and spiritually we develop the positive energy, or Qi, it takes to bring the mind, body, and spirit together and working as one. The goal as leaders is to push ourselves to be better people. Kung Fu training allows us to unlock our true potential, but at the same time it teaches us to be patient while on this path. It is the path to our goals that teaches us the most and allows us to lead others toward their own path. Through hard work and determination, Kung Fu provides us the means to better our lives in every way.
Kung Fu leaders must take these teachings and bring it to the community so it may be passed on to others. Doing this creates harmony throughout the community so that the positive Qi can flow outward to more and more people. With positive Qi, people can live more peaceful lives and society as a whole would benefit from this. Harmony throughout the community can be done first by listening to others and keeping an open mind to their point of view and not dictate our way of living. Our way must be presented in a way that is both honest and heartfelt.
Communication is the key to enlightening the community. We must listen to other people’s ways of thinking and believing as well as their plights and their dreams. By listening to people within the community, we achieve a better understanding as to how we as Kung Fu leaders can help them realize their potential and move toward a more positive way of living. Many people have different and difficult obstacles blocking their way to better lives. These obstacles present themselves both internally and externally. As Kung Fu leaders, it is our goal to help people overcome these obstacles leading them to a better understanding of what great things they are capable of. By showing compassion to people, they will accept our help and teachings with open hearts.
The goals we wish to accomplish are great, but first we must start by improving ourselves. This can be done through training ourselves to be self-disciplined and to be self-motivated. Focusing on developing inner peace and positive Qi is important if we are to show others how to develop this for themselves. By being better leaders and all of us working toward bettering ourselves, we can pass these teaching to everyone. That is what I take from Shifu ‘s words.
