2011 US Open Martial Arts Fighting Challenge featuring US vs China will be held in Denton Gym on
3800 Pleasant Valley Road, Mobile, Al 36609 on August 20, 2011.


 

The US Open tournament preliminary fights will start at 12:00 PM, and the final tournament will start at
7:00 PM; door opens at 6:00 PM.

Since 1994, The US Open International Martial Arts Championship has had many world class matches. Several international fighting superstars started their careers participating in the US Open International Martial Arts Championships. Additionally, the United States National Sanshou Team has been represented by fighter and coaches who have been participants with this event throughout its history.

This year the US Open International Martial Arts Championship Committee is truly opening its doors to all martial arts styles, including the newly developing MMA. This tournament uses the combined rules and regulations of international Sanshou/Sanda and MMA, which includes kicks, strikes, intercepts, grapples and throws; and also includes wearing appropriate head and body protection and standard MMA (for A division) and boxing gloves . Certain modifications may be made by the Tournament Committee to allow for other martial arts styles to be included in this year’s tournament. These modifications will be available through our websites and our Contact Representatives.

International teams from four continents have participated in the US Open International Martial Arts Championships. These include the South Africa Sanshou Team, and the Egyptian team. European teams from Italy and Holland have participated. From Asia, the tournament has seen the China Special Police team and China National Team. And from Central and South America participations has included the Brazilian Sanshou Team, Argentina Sanshou and Mexican Sanshou team.

US Open International Martial Arts Championship has introduced many world class fighters: MMA Champion World Sanshou Bronze medalist Cung Le, who started his first Sanshou competition in Mobile, Alabama, has won three US Open International Champion titles.

UFC fighter & World Sanshou Silver Medalist, Patrick Barry has won the US Open-K. Superstar US
2002 and has also won 2003 and 2004 K. Superstar world champion titles. UFC fighter Melvin Guilard won the silver medal in the 2003 US Open national team trials. He won the US Open International Martial Arts Championship title in the light-weight division in 2004.

K. J. Noon, International Sanshou & MMA Champion fighter, twice (2001 & 2002) won The International K. Superstar professional titles at the battle of the “Arts of War” in the US Open International Sanshou division. Li Jie, China, Sanda King, first Sanshou/Sanda World Cup Champion, defeated UFC fighter Rich Clementi in the 2004, winning US Open International Martial Arts Championship-K. Superstar professional main event title.

Wael Karika Muhammed, World Sanshou Champion and Africa Sanshou Champion won the 2007 US Open International Sanshou Champion title.

Tournament Information:

There are 3 major US Open Martial Arts Combat Challenge fighting divisions beside
light contacts (Please consult division appendix).

A: Advanced Division;
B: Beginner Division;
N: Novice Division

Winner for each weight category in preliminary fights will fight for final major 3 weight
classes in A division:

Heavy Weight,
Middle Weight
Light Weight.

Final three winners in light weight, middle weight and heavy weight will become the US
Open Martial Arts Challenge Title Champions in A division.

The tournament committee shall reserve the right to give any fighter a fighting test
to determine their correct division for safety before we allow him/her to fight. All

Prizes:

Each winner will be awarded $300.00 in cash as scholarship. The best fighter of the night
will be awarded with extra bonus.
There will be various prizes, medals and memorabilia and for other different divisions.

A division final general rule:
Full Score is 100

All legal forms of punches, kicks, throws and knee attacks from any school of Kungfu/Wushu/Karate/Tae Kwan Do/or other Mixed Martial Arts such as the following:

Punches : Straight punches, hooks, uppers, and backspin blows.
Kicks : Front kicks, low kicks, middle kicks, high kicks, side kicks, back kicks, inner thigh kicks, jumping kicks, and knee kicks.
Knees: Knees are only allowed to apply to the trunk below the neck and above the belt.
Throws: Neck throw, fireman’s throw, Forward throw, back throw (no head first throws), Catch leg throw, grappling arm throw…
Qin Na: Any head, wrist, arms, knee, leg and ankle locks may apply (within 10 seconds on the ground)

Brief Matching Methods & Scoring:

Attacking and defending techniques of any martial arts styles or schools can be applied.
Valid Parts
Head, Trunk, and legs
Applying Qin Na in A division
Prohibited Areas
Back of head, and crotch.
Head strike or punch is prohibited for N. division.
Prohibited Methods
1. Striking opponents head deliberately with intention to injure opponent.
2. Attacking the opponent by using the head, elbow, or pushing or striking reverse against the opponent’s joints intentionally injure the opponent.
3. Attacking the opponent’s back of the head or crotch.

Basic Scoring:
One points is awarded to the fighter if his opponent:
1. Falls (support his body by any part of the body other than his feet) while he himself
remains standing.
2. Is hit in the trunk once with the leg
3. Receives an official 8 count
4. Receives warning penalty
5. Is hit in the valid part with a hand technique
6. Is hit once on the head, upper or lower legs in a valid part with a leg technique
7. Shows passivity for 8 seconds, and remains passive for another 8 second after being ordered to attack.
8. Deliberately falls down and remains down for three seconds or more.
9. Is given an admonition or caution
10. Falls first when both fighters apply a technique to force the opponent down.
11. Applying a Qin Na technique (advanced only)
